Built Environment and Health

This report centers the issue of displacement in the conversation on healthy community development. It shows how large-scale public investments that are designed to improve the health of a community may just serve the new residents who can afford to live in the community. It frames displacement as a public health issue, lists risk and resilience factors, and shares six strategies, with examples, to prevent displacement:

  1. Influencing policy and legislation
  2. Changing organizational practices
  3. Fostering coalitions and networks
  4. Educating providers
  5. Promoting community education
  6. Strengthening individual knowledge and skill.
