This briefing paper describes how to address health in a comprehensive plan. It identifies water quality, air quality, mental health, social capital, food environment, physical activity, environment and housing, and accessibility as important topics. It provides examples of communities that have addressed health through a comprehensive plan update, corrective/selective amendments, revised codes of ordinances, and separate health-related plans.
