This article uses a national sample of zoning codes to explore whether pedestrian-oriented zoning is associated with increased active travel to work. It evaluates each code for the presence of pedestrian-oriented provisions and compares that with commuting data from the American Community Survey. It finds that these provisions are associated with increased active transportation and that in Southern jurisdictions, code reform zoning is associated with increased public transit use.
