Built Environment and Health

The county’s comprehensive plan seeks to improve community health in the Health and Safety and Air Quality elements. The Community Health section of the Health and Safety element discusses the relationship between the built environment and health and identifies smart growth, improving access to fresh produce, recreation, and healthcare, and protecting residents against hazardous waste as key objectives. The Air Quality element includes policies that specifically address Hazardous Emissions and Public Health.

Hazard Mitigation

The county’s comprehensive plan includes extensive hazard mitigation policy recommendations in its Health and Safety Element.

This element provides background on geologic, flood, temperature, fire, and wind hazard risks. And it includes hazard mitigation policy recommendations explicitly intended to help implement the local hazard mitigation plan (HS Goal A1–A4).
