This article reviews literature on health outcomes from societies with large and small measures of income inequality and finds that places with greater inequality also have poorer health and more social problems. Table 1 lists these social problems and their relationship with income inequality. Figure 2 shows where U.S. states fall on measures of income inequality and health and social problems.
