This article explores the relationship between neighborhood affordability and risk of foreclosure in metropolitan areas. It finds that neighborhood affordability contributed to foreclosure resilience in central cities that are in metropolitan areas with strong and weak markets, and in the suburbs that are in metropolitan areas with boom-bust markets. It concludes that more interventions are needed to improve neighborhood affordability, and that the effectiveness of strategies might differ depending on the residential density and type of housing market.
