Hazard Mitigation

This article offers recommendations for planners to prevent and prepare for major infectious disease events including pandemics. It evaluates the state of vulnerability to these disease events and suggests planners institute several strategies including public-private partnerships, land and transportation planning information systems, self-sufficient local food systems, and effective evacuation strategies and routes. The article focuses on the use of these strategies in large urban areas.
