Hazard Mitigation

This article assesses the effectiveness of several measures state governments are taking to support local hazard mitigation planning. It identifies six measures including staffing for hazard mitigation, program funding and policymaking, cost-sharing programs, technical assistance, local awareness support, and local land use support. The article assesses these measures in six states and offers recommendations for better supporting local hazard mitigation planning.
