Hazard Mitigation

The county’s comprehensive plan includes hazard mitigation policy recommendations in multiple chapters.

The Natural Resources and Energy chapter includes a Water Resources goal to minimize erosion and hazards and multiple policies aimed at maintaining vegetated buffers along watercourses.

The Land Use chapter limits development capacity in areas with soils subject to slippage, compaction, or high shrink-swell characteristics; steep slopes; or land prone to flooding. It also includes an Open Space and Floodplains goal to protect residents from natural hazards and multiple policies aimed at preventing new development in high hazard risk areas.
