Hazard Mitigation

This functional plan details a hazard mitigation strategy for the city. Its recommended actions advance the following goals: 

  • Minimizing death and property loss from natural hazards 

  • Protecting public health and safety 

  • Increasing public awareness of risk 

  • Reducing risk and effects of natural hazards 

  • Identifying hazards and assessing risks 

  • Ascertaining historical incidences and frequency of hazard events 

  • Determining increased risk to specific hazards due to location or other factors 

  • Improving disaster prevention 

  • Improving forecasting 

  • Limiting building in high-risk areas 

  • Improving building construction 

  • Improving government and public response to natural hazards
