Hazard Mitigation

The county’s codified ordinances include flood hazard protection regulations that exceed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s minimum requirements (§34). These regulations require all new and rehabilitated structures to be elevated at least one foot above base flood elevation. They also require flood protection measures for all development activities within the 500-year floodplain.
