Hazard Mitigation

The county’s floodplain regulations exceed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s minimum requirements. These regulations require all new development in the 500-year floodplain to incorporate flood hazard reduction techniques. And they require all new and rehabilitated residential structures to be elevated at least one foot above base flood elevation and establish special standards for alluvial fan high hazard areas.
