Hazard Mitigation

The city’s development code includes hillside development regulations and flood and slope hazard development overlay districts to reduce geological and flood hazard risks.

The Hillside Development regulations requires development, other than infill residential, on any site with a slope greater than 25 percent to submit a geological assessment to mitigate seismic and landslide hazard risks (§17.56).

The Flood and Slope Hazard Development Overlay district establishes restricted development areas and required setbacks for new development in areas near water bodies (§17.60). It also requires all new and rehabilitated structures in floodplains to be elevated at least one foot above base flood elevation.
