Hazard Mitigation

The city’s codified ordinances include regulations to mitigate flood and wind hazards.

Its Floodplain Management regulations exceed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s minimum requirements (§21). These regulations require all new or rehabilitated structures in special flood hazard zones to be elevated to two feet above base flood elevations and prohibits all critical facilities within the 500-year floodplain.

Its Manufactured and Mobile Homes regulations require all manufactured home parks that can accommodate 10 or more manufactured homes to provide a storm shelter (§26-25).
