Hazard Mitigation

The city’s local coastal program code includes regulations designed to reduce geological, flood, and wildfire hazard risks (Local Implementation Plan §9).

These regulations require all development proposals in geological hazard areas to submit a geotechnical study and residential structures in flood hazard areas to be elevated a minimum of one foot above the base flood elevation. They also prohibit new subdivisions unless applicants can demonstrate that all lots will be safe from flooding, erosion, geological, and extreme fire hazards.
