Shared Mobility

This article discusses the potential of ride-pooling to provide a more sustainable transportation option than vehicle automation and other shared mobility services. It addresses some of the limitations of ride-hailing as a service that is likely to increase congestion and only favor specific populational groups and suggests that pooled ride services have the potential to overcome these limitations. Different sections of this article explore how pooled rides can help achieve transportation sustainability goals, the relationship of shared mobility services and pooling, and the impacts of emerging forms of transportation on sustainability and equity.
