This article presents bike-sharing as one of the solutions for growing mobility problems in cities and shares recommendations for cities looking to implement and operate successful bike-share programs. It draws from lessons learned from successful and unsuccessful bike-share programs and further analyses two services in medium and small-size cities in Sweden and Greece. Some of the key recommendations for successful bike-share programs include:
- Planning for and implementing bike-share systems according to the specific needs of the target area.
- Investing in strong partnerships with the service providers.
- Developing regulations and infrastructure that encourage the use of bike-share systems.
