Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) employs a unique, place-based strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that catalyzes collective impact by combining community-driven climate projects in a single neighborhood. Projects must significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions over time; leverage additional funding sources; and provide health, environmental, and economic benefits. A TCC community employs visioning to develop plans to engage the community, avoid displacement, and develop the workforce. These are activated during project implementation to ensure that the community will benefit from project investments. Presenters share a unique model that embeds accountability in situations characterized by distrust between the government and community members.
Two TCC grant recipients tell how the TCC application process led to more engaged communities and access to funds from other resources. Panelists represent TCC stakeholders, grassroots organizations, residents, and local agencies. They speak to the significance of the collaborative stakeholder structure and how it has been integral to informing the goals outlined in community visions.
