Kimberley Mickelson brings energy, dedication, and an experienced legal perspective to all planning efforts. She is passionate about the complex, intellectual challenges of urban planning and development. She utilizes her talents in support of initiatives that advance the aspirations of residents in shaping their ideal community. She enthusiastically shares her knowledge through advocacy, training and publications, and mentoring planners and planning lawyers. She has been an APA leader since her career began, making her mark in advocacy for planning expertise. Her legal perspective is much sought-after, and she is a respected leader in groundbreaking planning and land-use law in Texas.
Professional Biography
Kim has a passion for the practice of urban planning law, concentrating her practice in the areas of land use, real estate development, economic development, and is a frequent speaker and author on these issues. In her current role advising the City of Houston Planning Department, she works extensively with deed restrictions. She is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Masters in Urban Planning program at Texas Southern University, and formerly in the Masters in Urban Planning program at Texas A&M University. She was inducted as a Fellow in the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2024.
