Old Mandeville Redevelopment Strategy
Community Planning Assistance Team Report
As part of a multi-year Hurricane Katrina disaster response initiative, APA organized and sponsored a Planning Assistance Team (now the Community Planning Assistance Teams program) to Mandeville, Louisiana in 2006 to assist with the city's ongoing recovery effort. Mandeville is located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain across from New Orleans. Storm surge from the lake along with wind and water damage from Hurricane Katrina significantly impacted the city. Amid the city's recovery efforts, the Planning Assistance Team helped the city refine their comprehensive plan.
The team's report provides a five-year vision for Mandeville with a series of statements on specific topics, then describes the culture, values, and character of the city. The team’s recommendations make up the bulk of the report and span many areas including land use, zoning, traffic circulation, redevelopment strategies, wayfinding, urban design, green space and recreation, flood mitigation, water quality, housing, and other site-specific analyses.
